Raging Calm was founded in 2012 by acclaimed BAFTA award nominated director David Tucker.
Raging Calm has produced both theatre projects THE BEAST WITHIN, (an adaptation of a Zola novel David wrote) and SCORCHED EARTH (a play about heroin addiction developed through workshops held in 2012 with playwright Che Walker), and film projects including BURN THE CLOCK, which was released in 2014.
Most recently Raging Calm have been conducting workshops entitled FLIGHT, in association with St Mungos Broadway Charity, with people who’s lives have been affected by addiction. These workshops operated within boroughs including Wandsworth, Southwark, and Hackney during the months of September and October 2015. The very first of these was in Camden in 2013 and was called HEARTACHE OF MY EYES.
These workshops help to continue particpiants’ rehabilitation and recovery through the medium of devising drama. The workshops aim to build trust between each group and provide a safe and non-judgemental space to explore the subject of addiction by sharing their own lived experience; and to collectively create something about their journey to recovery.
For those days within the workshop, the participants are all treated like professional actors. They arrive on time for rehearsal and do both physical and vocal warm ups. They then work together to devise the show that is performed at the end of the workshop period to an invited audience of friends and family.
